Riverdale’s Star Quarterback: Gavin Hampton

Gavin Hampton is a 3 Star recruit who plays Quarterback at Riverdale High School. Hampton is ranked as the 834th best recruit in the nation and is ranked as a top 50 Quarterback in the nation as well. In addition, Hampton is listed as a top 40 recruit in the state of Tennessee and is listed as the #4 Quarterback in the state of Tennessee. He is committed to play at Mississippi State.

Who are some role models in your life?
I’d say my dad is one of my role models in life. He is one of the hardest workers I know, pushes me to be better every day, and is how I learned what it meant to lead.

What are the strengths of your game?
The strengths of my game, I’d say, are my size and arm. I am 6’4″ and almost 220 pounds, and I can make every throw on the field.

What is your favorite memory of your career?
My favorite memory of my career so far is probably committing. I did it on my official visit weekend, so I got to spend a lot of time with the people I’ll be playing with in the future.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?
The best player I’ve played with is probably Dakota Guerrant. I spent some time with him at 7-on-7 tournaments, and he’s a playmaker.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Some advice I would give is to not take criticism from someone you wouldn’t take advice from. There’s gonna be a lot of people who say mean things to and about you, so you can’t listen to them.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Recently, I’ve wanted to travel to Japan. The culture is so much different, and they have many landmarks and cool things to do that you can’t experience anywhere else.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I’ve loved the game for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching football and playing it with my friends at a local park every day.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
I would love to meet Tom Brady. He’s the best player to play the hardest position in all of sports, and I feel I could learn a lot from him.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
My favorite sports moment as a fan was pretty recent, when I got to rush the field after Mississippi State beat ASU in their home opener.
