Who are some role models in your life?
My parents, my big brother, and my best friend who’s basically family. I also look up to Gavin Clark, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Neymar Jr. They all inspire me in different ways, on and off the field.
What artists do you listen to pregame to get hyped up?
I don’t have one go-to song, but the locker room vibes always get me hyped. We usually listen to NBA YoungBoy, Chucky, Lil Baby, G Herbo, Chief Keef, Drake, Rod Wave—and even some gospel music to keep things grounded.
What are the strengths of your game?
My biggest strength is my run defense. I’m physical at the point of attack and use my hands well to control blocks and make plays.
What is your favorite memory of your career?
My second game starting as a freshman, I had 3 sacks against Winston Salem Prep. One of them came right after the QB pump-faked to the end zone—I sacked him just before he threw it. I was screaming and celebrating with my teammates—that moment was pure hype. Another one was beating Mount Airy, who had a 40+ game winning streak. Nobody expected us to win, but we went into their house and came out with the W. Donny ripped the ball out and BJ recovered the fumble late in the game—our sideline went wild. It was unforgettable.
Who is the best player you’ve ever played with or against?
Noah Best is crazy fast and shifty—he had a clutch catch before halftime against Mount Heritage that tied the game. AJ is a lockdown DB and a real leader. Adrian played with a broken hand and still had 4 sacks and 8 TFLs in one game. Cam rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored 25 touchdowns in just 9 games. And Trey Dukes (No. 55) is proof that size doesn’t define you—he hits hard, plays multiple positions, and always brings intensity.
What advice would you give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Put God first. Trust Him, have faith, and do your part—He’ll handle the rest. Be a good person because younger kids will look up to you. Be a positive role model, stay focused, and walk the right path.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’d go to Congo. That’s where most of my family is from, and I’d love to meet them and see what life is like there.
How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I didn’t start playing until my freshman year. I was planning on sticking to soccer and basketball, but I met my football coach at my brother’s graduation. He asked if I played football—I said no. He said practice was at 5. I showed up, and the rest is history.
If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
LeBron James.
What is your favorite sports moment as a fan?
Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals—Cavs vs. Warriors. LeBron’s block on Iguodala and Kyrie’s dagger three over Curry.
