The Future UTEP Star: Quincy Mcgriff

Quincy Mcgriff-UTEP Small Forward

Quincy Mcgriff was born in, Santa Monica, California and played Small Forward at Santa Monica High School. Mcgriff is ranked as a Top 10 Small Forward in the state of California and is committed to play at UTEP this fall.

Growing up, were you inspired by any NBA Players?

Growing up, I was inspired by Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade. I liked both of them because they both had a great work ethic, and just by watching them you can tell they love the game.

What high school is your biggest rival?

I would probably say Beverly Hills because I have played them 6 times throughout my high school career.

What songs do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?

I listen to Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna, and Polo G before games.

What is your offseason training like?

My training right now is a lot of lifting and running. I lift once or twice a day and run the hills in the morning. Then I will workout with Julius V or just get shots up by myself.

What is your favorite memory of your high school career?

Favorite memory was probably tied with winning league and dunking on someone vs my rival team.

What parts of your high school game, do you hope to transition to the college level?

I want to transition my passing ability to college. I will be playing with better and more experienced guys, so I can make a lot of people on the court better.

What made UTEP stand out from other schools?

UTEP stood out to me because the coaches were really into just developing me and not talking about anything else. They were focused on just making me a better basketball player and I liked that.

What do you want to accomplish on and off the court during your time at UTEP?

I would like to win our conference and compete in the NCAA Tourney. Just overall become a better player, so I can have a chance to play professional basketball.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?

Kobe Bryant, just so I could talk to him about the mental part of basketball.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?

Favorite sports moment is when the Lakers won back to back championships.
