The Future Fresno State Star: Destin Whitaker
Destin Whitaker is a 3 Star recruit who played Shooting Guard at Romeoville High School. Whitaker is ranked as the #84 Shooting Guard in the class of 2020 and is listed as a Top 10 recruit in the state of Illinois. In addition, Whitaker is listed as a Top 2 Shooting Guard in the state as well. Destin Whitaker is committed to play at Fresno State this fall.
Growing up, were you inspired by any NBA Players?
NBA players I were inspired by growing up were LeBron James Tracy McGrady Kobe Bryant Kevin Durant I’m Kobe Bryant.
What high school was your biggest rival?
High School rival was Joliet West and Bolingbrook High School
What songs do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
Songs I warm up to are Low down by Lil Baby 1 Scale by Young Dolph Young prodigy by Kodak Black All day by G Herbo.
What is your offseason training like?
Off-season training is with me getting with my high school coach and personal trainer whether it be at my high school or any gym locally, and also getting in as many open runs to get 5 on 5 action and game like situations.
What is your favorite memory of your high school career?
My favorite high school memory was my junior year when I scored 37 points with only shooting like 18 shots it set me up for the rest of the season to get 25+ a night.
What parts of your high school game, do you hope to transition to the college level?
Parts of my high school game I would like to transition to college is my ability to shoot the ball and a high-level and create for my teammates also my ability to be able to defend the one through 5.
What made Fresno State stand out from other schools?
The thing that Stood out about Fresno State was the conference playing in the Mountain West conference is tough and a lot of players have came out of it including three I know currently Paul George Tyler Johnson and Paul Watson, Also the place style, I love the fast pace and the environment The culture just felt like a better fit for me.
What do you want to accomplish on and off the court during your time at Fresno State?
I want to accomplish being a starter or six man I also want to win the conference and take our team back to the tournament we were really close two years ago so that’s a goal for me, And as a freshman I just want to impact the team as much as I can with the minutes that I am provided.
If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
If I could meet one sports hero I would love to meet LeBron James and just connect with him not only with Basketball but business and investments outside of the game.
What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
My favorite sports moment as a fan will be watching the Cavs come back down 3-1 to the Golden State and seeing LeBron win the finals.
