The #1 Sophomore In New York: Cam Toomey

Cam Toomey is a 4 Star recruit who plays Defensive End at Saratoga Springs High School. Toomey is ranked as the 68th best recruit in the class of 2028 and is ranked as a top 10 Defensive End in the class as well. In addition, Toomey is listed as the #1 recruit in the state of New York. He currently holds offers from Penn State and Syracuse.

Who are some role models in your life?
Some of the role models in my life are definitely my family, especially my mom. They’ve always supported me in everything and have always been my number one supporters. They’ve stuck with me through football my whole life and will continue to.

What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
Pregame, I like to listen to some Drake, Travis Scott, or Playboi Carti to get me going.

What are the strengths of your game?
Some strengths of my game I would definitely say are my get-off and my hands. Those are the things I’ve always been told are the best parts of my game. I’m always able to work a move and speed rush through my get-off.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?
The best player I’ve ever played against was Lucious Anderson. He went to CBA in Albany and recently committed to Yale. Whenever we had a game coming up against them, he was always the guy we were preparing for. And he still always put up a lot of receiving yards and touchdowns against us.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Some advice I would give is to just be different. Don’t do what everyone else around you is doing. Surround yourself with people who think going D1 is normal. At the end of the day, it’s about who works the hardest and puts in the most time and effort.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If I could travel anywhere in the world, it would definitely be Italy. I just love the geography there, and all the pictures I’ve seen really make me want to take a trip out there.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
As soon as I started playing, I fell in love with the game. I knew that this sport was for me, and I never wanted to stop playing. I could also tell I took it more seriously than my friends did, which kind of showed me it was something special to me.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
If I could meet one sports hero, it would definitely be Josh Allen. The dude just seems so chill and genuine compared to other people. He’s always making people happy and being funny all the time.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
I’m not a Patriots fan, but I think my favorite moment was when the Patriots came back against the Falcons during the Super Bowl in 2017. It was just a crazy moment that I didn’t think was possible in that game.
