Sunlake’s Star Kicker: Vasilios Fotopoulos

Vasilios Fotopoulos is a 2024 recruit who plays Kicker at Sunlake High School. Fotopoulos is ranked among one of the top recruits in the class of 2024 and is ranked as a top 70 Kicker in the class as well. In addition, Fotopoulos is listed among one of the top recruits in the state of Florida and is listed as a top 10 Kicker in the state of Florida.

Who are some role models in your life?

I would say most definitely my parents. My mom was a 4 time All American in women’s soccer and won a national championship at Florida and went on to win a World Cup with the women’s national team in 1999. My father played at Old Dominion for a few years and then went on to finish his career at the University of Tampa.

What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?

Before games I like to be calm and relaxed and focused on the job I need to do to help my team compete and succeed.

What are the strengths of your game?

My strengths are knowing when my team needs a play on special teams and having a good bond with my coaches and teammates and supporting them in everything that they do.

What is your favorite memory of your career?

Being able to see my little brother after every game and see the smile on his face and him saying “good job I’m proud of you”. That’s one of the things that keeps me doing what I love and doing it for the people that have encouraged me and believe in me.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?

The best player I’ve ever played against has to be Bryson Rogers, he recently committed to Ohio state. His speed off the ball and his agility to get off the line is some of the best l’ve ever seen and we’re not even talking about his catch radius and his ability to catch the ball in traffic.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?

Advice I would give to someone is to just keep working and have god and the lord be a part of your journey.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Definitely England. I’ve played soccer almost my whole life. I would love to go watch a game.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?

It was my 7th grade year when my science teacher who was the head football coach at my middle school asked me if I played football, and at first I said no but after he explained to me how much talent I could have and the potential he saw in me I truly felt I could be the best at what I can do.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?

Definitely Tim Tebow, after reading his book called ” This is The day” I really wanna know how it is to be a Christian in such an atmosphere where everyone is watching you and how you react.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?

My favorite sports moment has to be when Messi and Argentina finally won the World Cup. After watching Messi all my years growing up it was super special to finally see the trophy he’s wanted to win ever since he was a kid.
