Slinging It With Santino Marucci

Santino Marucci was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and plays Quarterback at Bartram Trail High School. Santino is ranked top 35 at his position and is ranked as the 2nd best QB in the state of Florida. Marucci has commited to play at Wake Forest next fall.

Growing up, were you inspired by any NFL Players?

Growin up, I idolized Big Ben from the Steelers, they were my childhood favorite team and seeing him take his team deep into the playoffs year in and year out made him exciting to watch. Now that I am older and have a certain style of play I ahve become inspired by Patrick Mahomes and his gunslinger mentality.

What high school is your biggest rival?

As I transferred to Bartram Trail in Jacksonville a few months ago, I have not seen true rivals but according to my teammates I would say Creekside High or Oakleaf.

What songs do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?

My pregame songs consist of many different types of music. If I feel that I need to get hyped up, I listen to rappers such as Meek Mill, Logic, Kodak Black, and NBA Youngboy. If I am trying to go into the game with a calm attitude and clear my mindset my music ranges from Cage The Elephant to Sticky Fingers.

What is your offseason training like?

My offseason training consists of lifting, speed work, position specific footwork, conditioning and throwing. I try to get a balanced amount of each throughout the week. As summer camp has started for my school I have gotten the chance to work with my new teammates.

What is your favorite memory of your high school career?

My favorite memory of my high school career would be last year at Benjamin where we beat Kings Academy 49-14. I had a total of 6 Touchdowns. This game was very memorable because the year before they beat us 22-21 in overtime, ending our undefeated season to that point.

What parts of your high school game, do you hope to transition to the college level?

The part of my game I want to transition to the college level is my ability to extend the play and thinking on the fly, like my comparison to Mahomes, I think bringing a playmaker mentailty and doing whatever I can to help in the team success will translate to the next level.

What do you look for in choosing a college?

In picking a college, I look for a good balance of Athletics and Academics. With Wake Forest they provided Power 5 football with an Ivy League grade education.

When did you start looking at colleges, and when did colleges start looking at you?

As a kid growing up, I have always had aspirations to play college football, I began seriously looking into colleges after my freshman season. And I began getting college attention after my sophomore year.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?

I would like to mett Michael Jordan, his dominance in the NBA during the 90ś was unprecedented and his work ethicwas unmatched. I would love to get to know where that kind of work ethic came from and what he did to become the best ever.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?

My favorite sports moment as a fan would be watching the Steelers win the 2009 Super Bowl over the Arizona Cardinals. Specifically watching Santonio Holmes catch the game winning TD with little time on the clock.
