Pope John’s Star Linebacker: Tyler Houser

Tyler Houser is a 3 Star recruit who plays Linebacker at Pope John XXIII High School. Houser is ranked as the 759th best recruit in the nation and is ranked as a top 80 Linebacker in the nation as well. In addition, Houser is listed as a top 25 recruit in the state of New Jersey and is listed as the #4 Linebacker in the state of New Jersey. He is committed to play at Wake Forest.

Who are some role models in your life?

My parents. My dad played college basketball and my mom was an All American softball pitcher. They always support me and put sports in the proper perspective.

What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?

My music taste is very diverse. I would go with Limp Bizkit and Chief Keef.

What are the strengths of your game?

My passion, preparation, IQ and closing speed

What is your favorite memory of your career?

Beating DePaul on my birthday. My school had not beaten them in 25 years.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?

Compete in everything you do. Look at potential adversity as opportunity. Never walk away from a challenge.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

l love the water and the beach so I would love to visit Ko Phi Phi Le Island in southeastern Thailand.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?

I’ve loved football since I started playing it at 7 years old.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?

I used to play quarterback and always admired Tim Tebow’s leadership and competitiveness, so I would want to meet him.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?

Watching former Pope John linebacker Ryan Greenhagen break the NCAA record for tackles in a game with 31 against Nebraska. I remember watching him when I was younger and he was my linebackers coach last year.
