One Of The Top Pitchers In The Class Of 2024: Bryce Meccage

Bryce Meccage is a 2024 recruit who plays Pitcher at The Pennington School. Meccage is ranked as a Top 20 Pitcher in the class of 2024 and is ranked as the #1 Pitcher in the state of New Jersey for the class of 2024 as well. Bryce Meccage is committed to play for Virginia.

Growing up, were you inspired by any MLB Players?

Yes if i was inspired by anyone it would probably Mike Trout, he came from not a lot, similar to me and came from a similar area as me in… New Jersey and now he is the best so I really looked up to him for a while.

What high school is your biggest rival?

It kind of depends on the year who our rival is.

What songs do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?

Some songs to get me hype before game is probably Pop Smoke maybe some Drake to get me in the mood and get me hope for the game.

What is your offseason training like?

In the offseason I’m lifting,sprinting and throwing and hitting every day for 3 to 6 hours every single day I work with a program called tread athletics many MLB players use it.

What is your favorite memory of your high school career, so far?

Honestly, my favorite memory of my high school career even though it’s short is the first time I ever stepped on the field and the first time playing with them and for my high school was something special to me.

What parts of your high school game, do you hope to transition to the college level?

I mean I’m hopeful that I’m able to keep my mentality in my grind going through the college and more.

What made Virginia stand out from other schools?

I chose Virginia for a couple reasons. First off because my mom had worked there for a couple years coaching Field Hockey so I had known the environment and I liked it too. Virginia’s academic system is quite good and has one of the top business schools in the country and top public education‘s in the country. Virginia also has a top five Baseball program in the country winning a National Championship in 2015 they also have some great coaches and have developed some good pitchers and players throughout the years.

What do you want to accomplish on and off the field during your time at Virginia?

I think that if I were to carryover my mentality and my grind and my leadership over to Virginia I think I’ll be successful in the academic part of the school and also in the Baseball area too.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?

If I had to meet anyone I would probably want to meet Garret Cole, my uncle who coached him in the pirates organization for many years has told me he was a nice dude with lots of wisdom he has a very similar approach to pitching as me and I would like to get some of his knowledge to use for myself.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?

My favorite sport moment would have to be when LeBron James came back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals. I think it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to see that sort of thing and it’s pretty crazy a person like him could do that.
