One Of Rice’s Top Commits In The Class Of 2023: Patrick Valent

Patrick Valent is a 2023 recruit who plays Offensive Tackle at John F Kennedy High School. Valent is ranked among one of the top recruits in the nation and is ranked among one of the top Offensive Tackles in the nation as well. In addition, Valent is listed among the top 100 recruits in the state of Ohio and is listed as a top 10 Offensive Tackle in the state of Ohio. Patrick Valent is committed to play at Rice next fall.

Growing up, were you inspired by any NFL Players?

I loved the Steelers growing up. Some of those teams were awesome to watch. That’s where I fell in love with the game and what made me want to play.

What songs do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?

I listen to anything from hard rock to fast pace rap. Metallica, AC/DC, Lil Baby, Meek Mill, and Lil Durk.

What is your offseason training like?

Offseason training for me starts early. I wake up at 4 AM to make a 4:45 lift, then I usually have class till 3 and will get some football centered training after class.

What is your favorite memory of your career?

My favorite memory so far has to be coming back from being down 14-0 in the regional championship last year and getting to play for a state title.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?

The best player was probably Shemar Stewart or Myron Green at Paradise Camp last summer at Miami.

What was your reaction to getting your first offer?

It took a couple minutes to hit me when I met with Coach Bloomgren and he offered me. When it hit me it just felt like everything had been worth it. You work so hard for something that it’s hard to take it in and emotion just poured out of me.

What is your favorite food?

It’s got to be a Ribeye steak or some wings

When did you realize you were talented at football?

It took awhile. Growing up I always played Quarterback or Tight End and when I was asked to make the transition to play varsity at Left Tackle as a freshman I didn’t feel I was strong or big enough at 6’3 225. My goal was going all in on being a Lineman so I added 50 pounds during my freshman offseason which was quarantine and had an elite sophomore year. I made all state and that’s when it clicked like oh yeah, I can do this at the highest level.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?

I’m going to have to go with TJ Watt. He’s my favorite player right now.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?

As a Florida State fan being a little kid watching them win it all against Auburn in 2014 was pretty special. Also the Cavs coming back from 3-1. As a Cavs fan in 2016, it was the best being able to go to the championship parade.
