Lakota West’s Star Junior: Reilly Newman

Reilly Newman is a 2027 recruit who plays Defensive Tackle at Lakota West High School. Newman is ranked among one of the top recruits in the class of 2027 and is ranked among one of the top Defensive Tackles in the class as well. In addition, Newman is listed among one of the top recruits in the state of Ohio and is listed among one of the top Defensive Tackles in the state of Ohio. He holds offers from schools such as Michigan, Oregon and Kentucky.

Who are some role models in your life?
My parents and my coaches. They’ve all played a huge part in helping me become the person and player I am today.

What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
Pregame, I like to listen to rap—especially Lil Baby and NBA YoungBoy. They always get me locked in.

What are the strengths of your game?
Physicality and effort. I take pride in how hard I play every snap.

What is your favorite memory of your career?
Getting my first offer. That feeling was unmatched and reminded me that the hard work is paying off.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or against in your career?
Luka Gilbert. Practicing against him made me better, and I learned a lot from his approach to the game.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Learn to love the grind early. Be the hardest worker in every room you step into—that’ll separate you from the rest.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Italy—for the culture, the food, and just the experience overall. I’ve always wanted to go.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
Around eight years old. Once I started playing, I fell in love with it—and that love has only grown since then.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
Aidan Hutchinson. I try to model parts of my game after his and learn from how he plays.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
Watching the Bengals make it to the Super Bowl.
