La Habra’s Star Sophomore Quarterback: DJ Mitchell

DJ Mitchell is a 3 Star recruit who plays Quarterback at La Habra High School. Mitchell is ranked as the 457th best recruit in the class of 2027 and is ranked as a top 40 Quarterback in the class as well. In addition, Mitchell is listed as a top 70 recruit in the state of California and is listed as a top 10 Quarterback in the state of California. He holds offers from schools such as Auburn, Utah and Arkansas.

Who are some role models in your life?
God is first! My role models are my parents, grandparents, Jordan Love, and Lamar Jackson. Each of them has shown me what it means to stay grounded, work hard, and lead with character.

What artists do you listen to pregame to get hyped up?
I enjoy old school hip hop—Tupac, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube always get me in the zone. Kendrick Lamar’s energy and lyricism also fire me up.

What are the strengths of your game?
I’ve been blessed with a strong mental understanding of the game. I can extend plays by getting outside the pocket and making accurate throws on the run. I also pride myself on throwing with anticipation and precision.

What is your favorite memory of your career?
Winning championships in the Snoop Youth Football League, capturing the City Championship, and earning two league titles are unforgettable. Getting my first Division 1 offer was a huge milestone and a moment of deep gratitude.

Who is the best player you’ve ever played with or against?
Trestin Castro—he’s a 4-star at USC and a truly elite athlete. Competing with or against him raises your game.

What advice would you give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Believe in Jesus Christ, and believe in yourself. Represent your family name with pride, no matter what. Work hard—on the field, in the classroom, and in life—and study your craft every day. Stay focused and keep your circle tight.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Goree Island in West Africa, Ghana—specifically The Point of No Return. I want to connect with my roots and honor the history and strength of those who came before me.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I was about 5 years old when football clicked in my soul. I knew early on it was something I was meant to pursue.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
Jordan Love. I respect the way he’s handled adversity, stayed poised, and grown into his role with the Packers.

    I believe in all of my grandson DJ Mitchell’s abilities, hopes, desires and especially his dreams. He’s been special since he was born.

    I’m very proud of the young man he’s grown into and the man he’s growing into!

    My first grandchild and he makes us all proud!
