Ensworth’s Star Freshman Athlete: Justin Hopkins
Justin Hopkins is a 2026 recruit who is an Athlete at Ensworth High School. Hopkins is ranked among one of the top recruits in the class of 2026 and is ranked among one of the top Athletes in the class as well. In addition, Hopkins is listed among one of the top recruits in the state of Tennessee and is listed among one of the top Athletes in the state of Tennessee.
Growing up, were you inspired by any NFL Players?
Growing up, I played Quarterback so my biggest inspiration was Russell Wilson. As I got older I transitioned to Defensive Back and started to take a liking for Jalen Ramsey because of the way he carried himself and the fact that he was from Nashville.
What songs do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
I like 90’s hip hop so I listen to Jay Z, PAC, and Diddy a lot. Currently, rappers I like are Yeat and Bigscarr.
What is your offseason training like?
Offseason for me means basketball and track. I love playing basketball and it’s a good way to stay active. Track helps keep my endurance up.
What is your favorite memory of your career?
My favorite memory was probably my 5th grade football season when I first began my middle school journey. I broke for an 80 yard touchdown against top team Lipscomb Academy. Being able to make a play in a big game against good competition is always a good feeling.
Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?
The best player I have played against is probably CJ Saddler from Michigan. It was an intense battle during the 7v7 championships in Detroit. The best guys I have played with are probably Chas Smith, Bishop Starling, and Shavar Young. All of those guys are outstanding Defensive Backs.
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is Hibachi.
When did you realize you were talented at football?
Growing up in my youth program, there were always guys who had a little bit more talent than me and were just tougher in general, so after making the jump from youth ball to middle school was when I realized I had some potential to be pretty good.
If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
If I could meet one sports hero, it would be Kobe Bryant. The energy and effort that Kobe brought to his game is something that I would want to use not only in my game but in life as well.
What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
My favorite sports moment as a fan, was probably watching Jalen Ramsay get drafted into the NFL. Even though he was only a pick away form the Titans, it was a great moment to see that Defensive Backs from Nashville could make it big.
