College Park’s Star Defensive Tackle: RJ Wyms

RJ Wyms is a 4 Star recruit who plays Defensive Tackle at College Park High School. Wyms is ranked as the 57th best recruit in the class of 2028 and is ranked as a top 10 Defensive Tackle in the class as well. In addition, Wyms is listed as the #5 recruit in the state of Texas and is listed as the #1 Defensive Tackle in the state of Texas. He holds offers from schools such as Notre Dame, LSU and Michigan.

Who are some role models in your life?
Definitely my mother and father. They taught me a lot of the lessons that I still use today.

What artists do you listen to pregame to get you hyped up?
I listen to a couple of different artists. The main ones in my pregame rotation are J. Cole, Kodak Black, Benny the Butcher, Lil Tim, Screwly G, and a few others.

What are the strengths of your game?
I’d say my strengths are probably my explosiveness and versatility, which allow me to play every position on the line. I also have long arms that help me defend against the run.

What is your favorite memory of your career?
My favorite career memory is probably during the second round of the playoffs when my teammates and I on the defensive line had a dominant game. It was also the first time I got to play in the rain, which made the experience even cooler.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?
The best player I ever played against is either Sarod Baker or Boobie Feaster. Those guys were by far the most skilled players I have ever faced.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
The advice I’d give to an aspiring athlete is to be patient with the process because it takes time. When your opportunity finally comes, it can be a lot to take in. From a training standpoint, you have to be obsessed with your game and focus on getting one percent better every day.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If I could travel anywhere in the world, I’d probably go to New York City. I got to visit once and really experience what the city was like, and it was amazing. You could feel the energy everywhere.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I was probably around 15 when I really started loving the game. I started playing football in the seventh grade and had played basketball my whole life. I never really thought much about football at first, but once I started playing, I realized I had some talent for it. From there, I fell in love with the game and continued building on that passion.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
If I could meet one sports hero, it would probably be either Myles Garrett or Aaron Donald. Both guys have reached levels in their craft that I hope to achieve one day.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
I was a huge basketball fan growing up, and my favorite player was LeBron James. Just about any of his highlight plays is great to watch, but my favorite has to be his chase-down block on Andre Iguodala in the NBA Finals.
