Brighton’s Star Sophomore: Zahmar Tookes

Zahmar Tookes is a 2027 recruit who plays Defensive Tackle at Brighton High School. Tookes is ranked among one of the top recruits in the class of 2027 and is ranked among one of the top Defensive Tackles in the class as well. In addition, Tookes is listed among one of the top recruits in the state of New York and is listed among one of the top Defensive Tackles in the state of New York. He currently holds offers from Syracuse, Boston College and UConn.

Who are some role models in your life?
One of the biggest role models in my life is my father, Zequa D. Tookes. Watching him excel in different areas of life has inspired me to grow into a better man and football player.

What artists do you listen to pregame to get hyped up?
I listen to Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Marvin Sapp before games. Their music blends faith, wisdom, and motivation—exactly what I need to get locked in.

What are the strengths of your game?
As a defensive end, my strengths are my speed, ability to bend off the edge, and disciplined approach to studying the game.

What is your favorite memory of your career?
My favorite memory is getting my first varsity sack. It was a proud moment that showed my preparation and speed paid off.

Who is the best player you’ve ever played with or against?
Val Kondratenko from Brighton High School (Class of 2024) in Rochester, New York. He’s a standout.

What advice would you give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Keep God first and never give up, no matter where your journey takes you. It’s okay to start over and keep climbing.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Tokyo. The culture, energy, and innovation there really interest me.

How old were you when you fell in love with football?
I was six years old when I first fell in love with the game.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
LeBron James

What is your favorite sports moment as a fan?
Odell Beckham Jr.’s one-handed catch. That moment was unreal.
