Vista Murrieta’s Star Sophomore Cornerback: Joshua Banks

Joshua Banks is a 2027 recruit who plays Cornerback at Vista Murrieta High School. Banks is ranked among one of the top recruits in the class of 2027 and is ranked among one of the top Cornerbacks in the class as well. In addition, Banks is listed among one of the top recruits in the state of California and is listed among one of the top Cornerbacks in the state of California. He currently holds offers from Syracuse and UNLV.

Who are some role models in your life?
Some of my biggest role models are definitely my parents and my brother. Outside of my family, I really look up to Carlton Johnson and Bryan Thompson for the way they carry themselves both on and off the field.

What artists do you listen to pregame to get hyped up?
It depends on the mood, but I usually go with Rod Wave, Daniel Caesar, or Keyshia Cole. That music helps me lock in and calm my mind before the action starts.

What are the strengths of your game?
One of my biggest strengths is trusting my instincts and just playing without overthinking. But if I had to highlight one area, it would be man coverage. That’s where I feel most confident and dominant.

What is your favorite memory of your career?
My last playoff game against Long Beach Poly. I was locked in, and everything clicked. I made plays that used to feel tough, and that game really showed me how much I’ve grown.

Who is the best player you’ve ever played with or against?
Jonah Dawson from Rancho Cucamonga. Facing him was a real test, and it pushed me to get better.

What advice would you give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Never give up on your dream—no matter what anyone says. The work you put in when nobody’s watching is what separates you from the rest.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If I could travel or live anywhere, it would be Louisiana or Ohio. Those places breathe football, and I’d love to experience that culture firsthand.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I was probably 6 or 7. I’d run around with the older kids from Rancho Verde, trying to keep up and do what they did. That’s when the love for football really started.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
Taysom Hill. I’d love to ask him what it’s like to line up all over the field and contribute in so many different ways. That kind of versatility is inspiring.

What is your favorite sports moment as a fan?
The Patriots vs. Seahawks Super Bowl. My team lost, but watching that final moment—when Wilson threw the pick—was unforgettable. Being surrounded by family and everyone’s reactions made it even more special… except for my brother!
