Benton’s Star Sophomore Quarterback: Malachi Zeigler

Malachi Zeigler is a 4 Star recruit who plays Quarterback at Benton High School. Zeigler is ranked as the 52nd best recruit in the class of 2027 and is ranked as a top 10 Quarterback in the class as well. In addition, Zeigler is listed as the #3 recruit in the state of Louisiana and is listed as the #2 Quarterback in the state of Louisiana. He holds offers from schools such as Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and TCU.

Who are some role models in your life?

My role models are my parents. They literally have been my support team since I was born. There is absolutely no way I would be where I am without them.

What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?

I’m a christian guy. I usually listen to Maverick City Music or Transformation Worship.

What are the strengths of your game?

I feel like the strength of my game is having the ability to stay calm under pressure.

What is your favorite memory of your career?

My favorite memory of my career so far has to be the Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half with .01 seconds left on the clock against Parkway High School.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?

The best player I have played with was our running back from last year, Greg Manning. The best player l’ve practiced against is Peyton Houston.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?

The only advice I can give anyone is to work. There isn’t any secret thing. It is what it is. Put the work in and make it happen for yourself. Don’t expect it to be put into your lap by anyone.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’d love to go to Abu Dhabi.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?

I think that I really started to love the game the summer of my 8th grade year. It was at that time when I started to realize that playing QB might actually be something that I could do.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?

I study a lot of old school players. I’d say I would love to meet Barry Sanders. This guy literally said he retired because he got bored.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?

My favorite fan memory was when Tom Brady led the Patriots to a win after being down 28-3 in Super Bowl LI.
