Matt Henderson is a 4 Star recruit who plays Tight End at Powhatan High School. Henderson is ranked as the 342nd best recruit in the nation and is ranked as a top 20 Tight End in the nation as well. In addition, Henderson is listed as a top 10 recruit in the state of Virginia and is listed as the #1 Tight End in the state of Virginia. He is committed to play at Penn State.

Who are some role models in your life?

Some of my role models are my sisters. I look up to them in so many facets of life away from football.

What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?

I listen to Rod Wave because I like to stay composed and not be too crazy.

What are the strengths of your game?

The strengths of my game are definitely the jump ball, and playing strong through contact after/during the catch.

What is your favorite memory of your career?

My favorite memory of my career was coming back from 15 down in the fourth quarter and catching the game winning 2pt. conversion.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?

The best player l’ve ever played against is probably Makai Byerson from Manchester High.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?

Some advice I would give to aspiring D1 athletes is to trust your process, because everyone has a different journey. I think that sticking to what you know and what you’re good at is important. Mainly, not trying to be a player you aren’t will help your game.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

If I could travel anywhere in the world it would be Greece. The views and food interest me.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?

My dad has been coaching football for his whole life, so l’ve always been around the game. I’d say I truly fell in love with it my 9th grade year when I started playing higher level football.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?

If I could meet one sports hero it would be Sidney Crosby. He’s one of the greatest players at what he does and has an outstanding work ethic and passion for the game.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?

My favorite sports moment was watching with my dad as the Pittsburgh Penguins won back to back Stanley Cups.
