In addition, Byrne is listed as a Top 5 Tight End in the state of California. JT Byrne is committed to play at Oregon State next fall.
Growing up, were you inspired by any NFL Players?
Growing up, there were a couple players always looked up to. I always looked up to Alex Smith because that guy always played with a chip on his shoulder and he approach the game as an underdog which I thought was really cool. I also am really inspired by George Kittle and his play because that guy is a dog and he is the most physical player on the field.
What high school is your biggest rival?
Pacific Grove historically is our biggest rival but I think during my time at Carmel high it has been Palma High School.
What songs do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
I listen to Kanye West and Drake pregame
What is your offseason training like?
My off-season training usually consists of a 10 week program of weightlifting with Scott Fujita. He was an NFL linebacker for the New Orleans Saints. I also do a conditioning program as well a sprint program.
What is your favorite memory of your high school career?
My favorite memory of my high school career was breaking the school record for points in one basketball game(47).
What parts of your high school game, do you hope to transition to the college level?
I really am excited to transition to college and bring my ability to catch the ball down field, be physical in the blocking game and catching jump balls.
What made Oregon State stand out from other schools?
What stood out to me about Oregon State in comparison to other schools is the beauty of the campus, the excellent coaching staff, and the way that the program seems to be like a family.
What do you want to accomplish on and off the field during your time at Oregon State?
My goal is to win a pac 12 championship and a national championship. Also, I go off the field is to be the best ambassador I can be for the football program in the school itself for many years in the future. I also want to inspire other students and fans with my play.
If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
I would absolutely meet Michael Jordan. I would love to just talk to him about his mentality and the way he approaches the game.
What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
My favorite sports moment as a fan was win the San Francisco 49ers advance the NFC championship game on a game winning drive against the Saints win Alex Smith threw the touchdown to Vernon Davis.
