Derrick Butler is a 3 Star recruit who plays Running Back at WP Davidson High School. Butler is ranked among one of the top recruits in the class of 2024 and is ranked as a top 100 Running Back in the class as well. In addition, Butler is listed as a top 65 recruit in the state of Alabama and is listed as the #5 Running Back in the state of Alabama. He holds offers from schools such as Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and UCF.
Who are some role models in your life?
I would say my parents. They play a big role in my life.
What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
I personally am a Juice Wrld fan. I don’t have to be really hype going into a game, I’d rather be calm and at peace.
What are the strengths of your game?
A mix of my explosiveness, speed, and vision. I would say those are my most powerful assets that I could bring to a team.
What is your favorite memory of your career?
My favorite memory was the game I scored 6 touchdowns with 300+ yards… That was a really crazy night for me. I was really locked in that game.
Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?
The best player I’ve played with is Justin Powe. He’s currently a freshman safety at Troy, but in his high school career he challenged me everyday to be better. I would argue that his motivation is paying off.
What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Believe in yourself and keep working. The day you give up, is the day you lose it all.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Bora Bora. I really want to experience everything over there.
How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I fell in love with football around the age of 7.
If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
Saquon Barkley hands down, his collegiate highlights were always crazy!
What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
I would say my favorite sports moment as a fan would be the day I attended a Pelicans basketball game.
