The New Guard Coming To Cincy: Mason Madsen
Mason Madsen was born in, Wisconsin and played Guard at Mayo Senior High School. Madsen is ranked as a Top 10 recruit in the state of Minnesota and is listed as a Top 5 Guard in the state as well. Madsen is committed to play at Cincinnati this fall.
Growing up, were you inspired by any NBA Players?
I think I was most inspired by Kobe because of his work ethic and Steph because he is relatable when it comes to being undersized and underestimated at times.
What high school is your biggest rival?
Both of the cross town schools in Rochester, where I am from, would be the biggest rivals we had: Rochester Century and Rochester John Marshall.
What songs do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
It kind of depends on the day, but J Cole has always been my favorite artist, so lots of times that is who I am listening to.
What is your offseason training like?
I always workout with my twin brother Gabe. Even during quarantine, we found a way to still workout 3 times a day and lift. My friend Will Tschetter who is committed to Michigan, lives only about 10 minutes away from me, so I worked out with him everyday as well.
What is your favorite memory of your high school career?
My favorite memory is beating our cross town rival in the playoffs and ending the game with a dunk to put the game away. Even though we did not get to finish our season because of COVID, it was a coll way to end my high school career.
What parts of your high school game, do you hope to transition to the college level?
I think my ability to shoot will carry over to any level I play at. I also think my ability to lead will help me at the next level.
What made Cincinnati stand out from other schools?
I chose to come to Cincy for a variety of reasons, but I think two that stick out are because I want to win at the highest level and become the best player possible and I know I can do both of those here.
What do you want to accomplish on and off the court during your time at Cincinnati?
On the court, I just want to win. Simple as that. However, I want to leave my mark off the court. I want to put my face out there and try to help affect positive change in the community in whatever way I can. I have been able to do that in other cities that I have lived in and I want to do the same thing here.
If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
If I could meet one sports person, it would be Steph.
What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
My favorite sports moment was when the Packers won the Super Bowl when I was in 4th grade. I grew up in Wisconsin an I am a die hard Packers fan.
