Just Putting Up Shots With Jacob OConnell
Jacob OConnell was born in, Voorhees, New Jersey, and plays forward at Princeton. He is currently a rising Sophomore, and stands at about 6 feet, 11 inches. Last season he averaged 1 point, 1 rebound, and shot nearly 43% from the field. He is looking to be a big contributor to his team this upcoming season, with the departure of big man Richmond Aririguzoh, and big man Will Gladson.
Growing up, were you inspired by any NBA Players?
I always liked Dirk Nowitzki growing up. He was the first NBA jersey I ever got and I admired how skilled he was for his size.
What Ivy League team is your biggest rival?
Penn of course
What songs do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
Butterfly Effect by Travis Scott and Look Back At It by A Boogie are two of my favorites. Beyond that I am ok with whatever is playing on the arena speakers.
What is your offseason training like?
This offseason I ahve been doing a lot of running to stay in shape and lifting as often as I can. It has been tough to find places to play basketball but I usually go to the park to shoot with some friends and play pickup.
What parts of your game, do you think transitioned the best from high school to the college level?
I would say my passing and feel for the game. In high school I was good at making guys around me better and I have been doing well whith that in college too.
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
The number one goal is obviously to win the Ivy League and go to the NCAA Tournament. As for myself I just want to contribute to the team as much as possible.
What are your plans for after you graduate?
I am not sure yet, but I would love the opportunity to play professionally somewhere.
What advice would you have for a young basketball player, who has dreams of playing D1?
Work as hard as you can every day and never be complacent, you can always improve.
If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
I will say Dirk for this one too.
What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
Kris Jenkins buzzer beater 3 vs North Carolina was awesome.
