St. John’s Star Sophomore Linebacker: DJ Butler

DJ Butler is a 2029 recruit who plays Linebacker at St. John’s College High School. During his freshman season with the cadets, Butler came in and made an immediate impact on defense. The rising sophomore tallied 32 tackles, 17 of which were solo, 5 tackles for loss and 2 pass breakups. Butler’s ability to come in and hold his own against top competition did not go unnoticed, as he received offers from some of the nation’s top programs, including Penn State, Auburn and UNC.

Who are some role models in your life?
My parents and Da’Jon Talley Rhodes. My parents help guide me and keep me on track. Da’Jon, aka Dada, is the running back on my team. Last year, coming in as a freshman, he took me under his wing like a little brother. He helped me create good habits, and he’s just a great role model.

What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
Gizwop and NBA YoungBoy.

What are the strengths of your game?
My IQ of the game. It’s become really easy for me to read offenses. Also, my ability to be a leader.

What is your favorite memory of your career?
The 8th grade Under Armour All-American Game.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?
The best player I’ve ever played with is Tariq Boney.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Get 1% better every day. You shouldn’t really have a day off.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Jamaica.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I was 6 years old.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
Fred Warner.

What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
Watching the Spurs beat Oklahoma City this year.
