Carmel Catholic’s Star Junior Tackle: Wyatt VanBoening

Wyatt VanBoening is a 4 Star recruit who plays Offensive Tackle at Carmel Catholic High School. VanBoening is ranked as the 80th best recruit in the class of 2028 and is ranked as a top 20 Offensive Tackle in the class as well. In addition, VanBoening is listed as a top 10 recruit in the state of Illinois and is listed as the #2 Offensive Tackle in the state of Illinois. He holds offers from schools such as Notre Dame, Penn State and Ole Miss.

Who are some role models in your life?
My primary role models in life are my parents and brothers. They provide an example of what the right thing to do is, even when it is a hard choice that has to be made.

What are the strengths of your game?
Some of the strengths of my game are my willingness to get put into uncomfortable situations and do whatever is best for the team.

What is your favorite memory of your career?
My favorite memory from my career was against Fenwick. We were down 14 at halftime and put up 28 unanswered points. That was a cool experience because one of my former teachers is the DBs coach there.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or played against in your career?
The best player I have played against was Jake Thies from Fenwick. He is a super athletic safety and a really tricky guy to block in space.

What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
My advice to aspiring D1 athletes is to focus on your own progress. All it takes is one opportunity.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If I could travel anywhere in the world, I would probably choose Australia. There is a lot of nature, and it would be really cool to see.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I really fell in love with the game in 7th grade. I started embracing a more competitive mindset and really committed myself to it.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
If I could meet one sports hero, it would have to be Lane Johnson. He has one of the best stories on his way to the NFL.

What is your favorite sports moment as a fan?
My favorite sports moment as a fan would have to be the Bears beating the Packers in the playoffs. My best friend is a huge Packers fan, and I watched it with a couple of friends. It was an absolutely insane shift in the direction I thought the game would go.
