Who are some role models in your life?
One of my biggest role models is my older brother, who passed away when I was around 7 or 8 and he was 17. Most people don’t even know I had a brother, but he was an up-and-coming boxer with a lot of promise. Seeing how close he was to making it big and then falling short—it’s what drives me every single day. I carry him with me in everything I do.
What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
Before games, I usually listen to Rod Wave, NBA YoungBoy, and some Baltimore artists like MgShorty, Nasg Chaz, and YGTeck—not a lot of people know about them, but they’re fire. Outside of rap, I vibe to Olivia Rodrigo, Frank Ocean, Montell Fish, Rex Orange County… I listen to whatever gets me in the zone.
What are the strengths of your game?
My biggest strength is my athleticism for my size—especially since I play both tight end and defensive end. I take a lot of pride in blocking as a tight end, which a lot of guys don’t anymore. Being able to catch and block makes me versatile, and that’s something coaches value. I’m also really coachable—I love learning and being a student of the game.
What is your favorite memory of your career?
My first high school game was unforgettable. I was the only freshman starting on varsity, and it was a tight game against Gilman. I caught a pass and dragged three defenders—including one of the top players in the state—into the end zone. The crowd started chanting, “He’s a freshman!” That moment lit a fire in me.
What is some advice you would give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Focus on school. You can be the most talented athlete out there, but if your grades aren’t right, none of your offers will matter. And when you don’t feel like working—that’s when it’s most important to push yourself. Those are the days that separate the average from the great.
How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I fell in love with football at 3 years old, just watching my dad play flag football for his Navy team. I started with flag, and by the time I was 6 or 7, people were already saying I was going to the NFL. I played every position until I was about 12, then started focusing more on tight end, wide receiver, linebacker, and defensive end. As you get older, it’s tougher to play both ways unless you’re someone like Travis Hunter—but I’m always down to do whatever the team needs.
If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
De’Anthony Thomas, no question. He’s the reason I chose number 6, and why my dream school is Oregon. Crazy enough, my first youth team was the West Baltimore Ducks—and Oregon’s the Ducks too. I’ve been dreaming of that offer ever since.
What is your favorite sports moment, as a fan?
Last year’s Ravens vs. Rams game. Our team got invited after winning the championship, and the Ravens are my favorite team, so I was hyped. The game went into overtime, and right before the punt return, I told my boys, “Tylan Wallace is about to take this to the house.” Next play—boom, he did it. I like to take a little credit for that one!
