Waylon Peters is a 2026 recruit who plays Punter at Montgomery High School. Peters is ranked among one of the top recruits in the nation and is ranked as a top 15 Punter in the nation as well. In addition, Peters is listed among one of the top recruits in the state of Texas and is listed as the #3 Punter in the state of Texas. He is committed to play at Texas A&M.
Who are some role models in your life?
My coach, Cody Mandell. He’s had a big impact on me and how I approach the game.
What artists do you listen to pregame, to get you hyped up?
I listen to some rap, but mostly Christian music—it helps me get my head right and stay focused.
What are the strengths of your game?
I perform well under pressure. When the moment gets big, I stay calm and deliver.
What is your favorite memory of your career?
Our win against Nederland last year. That game was a turning point for us as a team.
Who is the best player you’ve ever played with or against?
Jake Wilson, the tight end at the University of Wyoming. He’s a great competitor and teammate.
What’s some advice you’d give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Keep your head down and do your own thing. Don’t get distracted by what others are doing—focus on your own path.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
College Station, Texas. That’s a place I’ve always wanted to experience.
How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I fell in love with football back in elementary school. It’s been a passion ever since.
If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
Tommy Townsend. He’s a guy I look up to, especially as a specialist.
