Rancho Cucamonga’s Star Sophomore Defensive Back: Nathaniel Mensah

Nathaniel Mensah is a 3 Star recruit who plays Cornerback at Rancho Cucamonga High School. Mensah is ranked among one of the top recruits in the class of 2027 and is ranked as a to 60 Cornerback in the class as well. In addition, Mensah is listed among one of the top recruits in the state of California and is listed as a top 20 Cornerback in the state of California. He holds offers from schools such as Auburn, Arizona and UNC.

Who are some role models in your life?
Some role models in my life are my older brother Kwasi and my coach Rob. They’ve both played a huge role in my development—Kwasi sets the example for how to move with purpose, and Coach Rob has helped shape my mindset on and off the field.

What artists do you listen to pregame to get hyped up?
Before games, I like to lock in with music from Lil Durk, Lil Baby, and Willbandzzz. They get me in the right headspace.

What are the strengths of your game?
My physicality at the line and my length are two of my biggest strengths. I take pride in being tough, aggressive, and using my frame to my advantage every snap.

What is your favorite memory of your career?
Freshman year, I got the chance to play with my cousin Landon White. Sharing the field with family and building those memories together made that season special.

Who is the best player you have ever played with or against?
One of the best players I’ve had the chance to play with is Trestin Castro. He’s a serious competitor and raised the standard every day.

What advice would you give to an aspiring D1 athlete?
Keep working and don’t waste time comparing yourself to others. Everyone’s journey is different—focus on your grind and stay locked in.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
If I could go anywhere, I’d pick Bali. The beaches, the peace—it’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to see.

How old were you when you fell in love with the game?
I actually fell in love with basketball first when I was 12. It opened the door for my competitive spirit, and eventually football followed.

If you could meet one sports hero, who would it be?
I’d want to meet Kobe Bryant. I looked up to him growing up—the “Mamba Mentality” is something I try to carry into my own game.

What is your favorite sports moment as a fan?
Watching the Warriors win the championship in 2018.
